Solution Engineering

Custom SolutionsBuilt to Extend Your Core Platforms.

When SAP, Salesforce and ServiceNow cannot cover a requirement on their own, we design and build the custom solutions and integrations that sit between and around them, with the same engineering discipline you expect from your core systems.

What does solution engineering involve?

Solution engineering is the design and build of custom software that extends or connects your core enterprise platforms, used when an out of the box configuration of SAP, Salesforce or ServiceNow cannot meet a requirement on its own. It applies standard software engineering discipline, such as code review, environment management, automated testing and controlled release practices, to work that often gets treated as a one off script or a quick customization, which is usually where long term maintenance problems start.

Common Questions

Configuration should be the first option whenever a platform's standard capability can meet the requirement, since it is generally cheaper to maintain and upgrade safely. Custom engineering becomes necessary when the requirement falls outside what the platform supports natively, such as a specific cross system workflow, a data transformation rule, or a user experience the platform cannot express through configuration alone.

We treat custom solutions as production software from the start: version controlled code, defined environments for development, testing and production, automated tests where practical, and documented release procedures. This is the same discipline applied to any well run engineering team, but it is frequently skipped for enterprise customizations, which is why they tend to age badly.

Yes. Many of the solutions we build exist specifically because a requirement spans more than one platform, for example a process that starts in Salesforce, triggers a step in SAP, and needs visibility in ServiceNow. Designing these correctly requires understanding the integration architecture across all the systems involved, not just the platform where the requirement originated.
